Keeping Tabs on the Errors

We've added Sentry error monitoring to Excuse My Blank, and it's already showing us everything we've missed.

Over at Excuse My Blank, we’ve been staring into the darkness where mysteries like to hide. In the crevices of our app’s code, where errors lurk, we aim to shine a light. But rather than merely stumbling around, we’ve recruited help: Sentry.

Installing Sentry felt akin to suddenly noticing a telltale heartbeat in a stethoscope. The errors we kind of sensed were there — they’re now blipping right into view. Tracking them down used to be a game of hide and seek. Now? We can peek at our mistakes in real time. It’s as though the tangled yarn of code is unwinding before us, revealing the knots.

Small hiccups pop onto our radar. An unexpected failure here, a missed case there. But it’s the frequency that truly catches our collective eye. Errors we thought were rare now seem louder, bolder. A whisper becomes a shout.

Sentry offers not just visibility but reassurance. Our app does its thing, and if anything skewers the experience, we know it. It’s like being backed by an orchestra of problem-solvers, each note is a path forward. We can focus better, knowing what’s truly urgent.

There’s no need for the old routine of guesswork. The days spent retracing hundreds of lines to catch the guilty party fade away — one clear signal to trace, and we’re on our way to resolution. We see the paths our users travel and the potholes on their journey. We’re here, filling them in.

For a team driven by the art of wordplay, feeling in control of the narrative unfolds into a quieter peace of mind. These entries — detailed, timestamped, holding keys to solutions we couldn’t find before — become our compass. We’re not lost in code’s labyrinth; we’re cartographers mapping it out.

Ending the day, we look back at those insights already captured, nestled in the quiet clarity of Sentry’s margins. We’ve cracked open the fortress of uncertainty just a smidge wider. Not to say we’ve got it all under control. But our awareness? It’s expanding.

In the soft hum of our monitoring system lies a reminder. We’re never really done. There will always be more to learn, more to fix. And for now, that’s fine.
